“I had a stroke in 2022 and was told to manage expectations. Nobody at ADAPT manages expectations. They raise them. I'm walking, lifting, and back to gardening. The Advanced team is something special.”
The plateau is usually the program, not your body.
Insurance-funded rehab ends. The work doesn't have to. ADAPT Advanced is one of the few West Coast centers built around long-arc spinal cord injury recovery, applying the same system, for people the medical system told to stop.
- One of the few centers on the West Coast doing serious, long-arc SCI training
- Wheelchair-accessible throughout: equipment, training floor, and parking
- Scholarship fund available. Cost shouldn't be the reason you don't start
Is spinal cord injury starting to shape what you'll do and what you skip?
Spinal cord injuries, complete or incomplete, traumatic or non-traumatic, change how the nervous system sends and receives signals. Recovery is non-linear: neuroplasticity continues for years, especially when it's paired with consistent, specific training. The plateau most people hit isn't biological. It's a programming plateau, and that can change.
What we usually hear- A.Loss of sensation or motor control below the level of injury
- B.Difficulty with transfers, posture, or trunk control
- C.Spasticity or muscle tone changes
- D.Pressure-injury risk from prolonged sitting or limited movement
- E.Cardiovascular and metabolic decline from reduced activity
- F.A sense that progress 'plateaued' once formal rehab ended

Our approach to spinal cord injury.
1-on-1 sessions with an Advanced Training Specialist. We assess where your body is today, then build from there: activity-based therapy, locomotor training, FES (functional electrical stimulation) when indicated, wheelchair athletics, and integrated strength work. Programs are built around your goal, not your injury level. Wheelchair-accessible space, equipment, and parking.

“I came in after a knee replacement convinced I'd never hike again. Two years later I'm in the mountains every weekend, and back in the gym three mornings a week. ADAPT didn't fix me. They taught me how to keep getting better.”
“I needed some adaptations to the exercises and Carly did great with that. I like how she checked in with me to see how I was doing. This was my first class in over 6 years. I have worked hard to get to this point. She gave me the confidence to know I can do this.”

Five reasons members come, and stay for a decade.

One system, not a handoff.
Your PT and your coach aren't running separate playbooks. They read the same intake and apply the same movement principles, so restoring better movement in the clinic and reinforcing it in training is one continuous plan, not a baton pass.
Direct access in Oregon: no referral required.
Skip the doctor's-office stop-over. Walk in, get assessed, start moving better. PT is cash-pay: only motor-vehicle-accident (PIP) insurance is billed.
Same practitioner every visit.
Continuity that compounds. Each session builds on the last because the same eyes track how your movement is changing, and consistency is what actually changes the body.
Long-arc, not quick-fix.
A few weeks of relief is fine. Decades of capability is the goal. Getting older doesn't mean giving things up. Members come in for one problem and stay for years because the system keeps progressing with them.
We read movement, not just imaging.
Imaging describes the structure. The movement assessment shows where your body is compensating and loading the wrong tissue. We work with what your body actually does, then restore it doing the right job.
Get your week back from spinal cord injury.
Progress is measured in years, not weeks. The Advanced Evaluation is a paid, 10-hour assessment spread across several weeks that produces a detailed long-arc plan. Members typically train 1–3x weekly for years; meaningful gains in strength, function, and capacity continue throughout.
- Comprehensive assessment. Postural pictures, full movement screen, and a baseline you can measure progress against. Numbers, not vibes.
- A plan built for your body.Shaped around your goals, your imaging, and what your body actually does, not what it's supposed to do.
- Same practitioner, every visit. Continuity that compounds. The plan adjusts as your movement changes.
- Reinforced until it sticks. As the pain quiets, the same system carries into classes and small-group training so the gains don't slide back.
